Let that penetrate your mind, heart, and soul for a second.
You matter in this crazy big world.
God sought you out from your mother’s womb and destined you to walk through the journey you find yourself in now. What a game changer. I wish I believed those words back then.
Don’t you hate living in regret? I’m raising both my hands! When I started looking around for colleges to attend I was so overwhelmed with all the options I had at my fingertips. I wanted to make the right decision not only for myself, but one my parents would be proud of. Yes, I’m that kid. I was so laser focused on the logistics of how my future was gonna be changed that I didn’t realize the value my life held. By no means did I struggle with self hate, but I saw college as the normal, necessary next step. I wasn’t jumping up for joy exclaiming “Oh my gosh!!! I’m going to college and I’m going to find my value and realize I matter! Yay!!”
I say all that to say this: When you shift your mind to believe that you matter, it will become the filter your eyes, heart, and soul use to take on the challenges that will come.
More so, it will help you deeply appreciate all the good things that will come too. New friends, laughs, weekend trips, dorm life, jobs, concerts, etc. Every year had different challenges, but God surrounded my life with people who genuinely showed me that my life mattered. They didn’t flat out say it, but they had my back, spoke Truth over me, prayed for me, made me not do stupid things alone (#truefriends), accepted all my quirks, and loved me.
It wasn’t that I knew I had amazing friends then…I knew I had met my forever friends. I say all that to say this: I lived for two years after college on my own and struggled to find my value. I knew it was hidden deep in my heart, but along the way I had stopped searching for it and I just want to live life as it came.
Friend, you matter.
Life isn’t about accomplishing the to-do list; life is about living like you matter because the Life inside of you says you do.
“And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.”
“I am your Creator. You were in my care even before you were born…”
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
